LED shop lights use light-emitting diodes rather than gas-filled tubes and ballasts. They consume less electricity, usually last much longer, turn on at full brightness immediately, and are available in fixture styles that direct light exactly where it is needed.

The biggest difference is not simply brightness. It is the amount of useful, consistent light a fixture produces over time and the effort required to keep it working.
